Its Another Rainy Day...

Rain~ Falling in my heart~

The rainy season's here people! With no regards to everyone's inconveniences, I guess its here to stay for a while. Just saw on the news that over at Taiwan, the thunderstorms has caused landslides in a few areas. We are lucky as these natural disasters do not happen over here in our small little red town. (Guess we have no mountains to begin with...)

Well, today's lecture was pretty informative and funny; didn't know Java uses so much of Shiva in their culture. There's this concept of localisation; the taking of ideas from other areas and applying to their own culture after some tweaking. Well, thats the layman term that I have come up with. Pretty interesting, this module on Southeast Asia.

Yesterday was my first tutorial and it turned out fine to my standards I guess... I only managed to voice out my opinions twice in the one hour class and I am rather pleased with myself for the effort. (Obviously, Singaporeans, by nature do not like to speak a lot unless they are coaxed...) Just for an hour of tutorials, I had to make my way down to campus, which took me 2 hours, thats 2/3 of the time spent on travelling. Cool eh... Well, it happened again today, although the situation today was a bit better than yesterday; 1/2 of the time travelling.

Gotta get back to reading those "Essential Readings" for my Southeast Asia module; its going to be discussed in the coming tutorial this Friday.

Dawn of The Tutorials...

Haha, as you all can gather from the title of this particular entry, your author is about to start his tutorial sessions soon; tomorrow, that is. Although he is busy preparing for his first tutorial, he still found time to update his blog. (Clap for me pls... heehee)

Well, tomorrow's gonna be my first tutorial session in 2 years, hope my command of the english language is still passable... (After 2 years of hokkien speaking and of course... broken engrish... heh..) I am glad that my dear friend Paul still takes time off his busy schedule to give me a call now and then. Thanks Paul!

Start of tutorials, start of new lifestyle, start of new phase of my life... they all just come in packages eh... Lumps of them, all thrown and smitten at you at once. Heh, but I like it... Gotta get down to work soon... Thats that for today.

Time, what is time? Is it an object? No, its belongs to no one but it is given to everyone.

What In The World?!...

Woohooo, guess I am still pretty much alive and kicking... for now at least... Well, the semester's started, everything is picking up as I wanted it to be. Back in the education system after 2 years of absence never feels better. Attended the first lectures for all 5 of my modules, kind of enjoyed everyone of them, except the econs one, its actually a repetition of the Economics I read in Junior College. Guess I am left with a lot of compulsory readings to do... Just looking at the readings resting on my shelf (SE Asia Studies & Info Comms) sends shivers down my spine; a jaw dropping 8cm of paper thickness, and thats only 2 out of the 5 modules I am taking. Enough of my lamenting on that, I figured that Uni life can get rather cold and lonely. Everyone's fighting for a common goal; and that is to graduate with a better grade than everyone else; I guess I am not alone in respect to that eh...

I will be looking forward to this Thursday when I will get to watch AvP with my friend and brother. Its about time those 2 ugly monsters of the big screen be pitted against each other in a deathmatch. Whoever wins, we lose... Yeah right, I should be screaming my head off at the end of the show then. (Hee)

I feel that I am getting more and more dependent on my Palm. Its almost like the everday runnings of my life depends on it. It organises and tells me what I told myself I should do today with my life and I think I will be very much lost in this world without it. Organisers, I guess its the same with paper organisers, just a lot faster. Heehee...

My mind is filled with some questions from attending today's Philosophy lecture. This module is good for oiling and defrosting that frozen, rusty brains of those who are seperated from their studies for 2 whole years. It kinds of promotes avid reading and thinking like no other subjects I had ever came across before. Guess I am in for a whole lot of fun this semester. I should be updating this blog area whenever time permits; which ineveitably spells out that I will not be posting blogs everyday of my life.

I am pretty much happy with the life I am having now, a great new experience for me and of course, for the friends around me. I will not be able to satisfy each and everyone of my friends of their needs of going out or meeting up for at least 3 to 4 years starting from now. I will have to learn to prioritise and share my time equally between all friends of mine; which will mean that I will not be able to keep one particular friend company for an extended period of time. I hope you all will understand that I am not trying to isolate anyone of you and should you feel neglected, do give me a call or sms anytime after 8pm.

Had a nice and long talk with my former camp understudy; Zulu Tan, yesterday night. That may be one of the few rare chances that I will be able to talk to people for that long on the phone. (2 hours...) After tutorial sessions start (Which is next week), I will be busy doing assignments and projects; again, cutting back on the amount of time I will be able to share between myself, my family and my friends.

Won't time ever wait up for anyone? I doubt so...

Start of a New Life...

Well, the day is edging nearer as I speak. Wednesday will be the day I will officially start a new phase of my life, more responsibilities and of course, a chance to know more people.

Today is national day, supposedly a happy day for every singaporean. However, I am unable to get myself into a joyous mood anymore. (That was since the first time I saw my friends take part in the NDP preparations.) I am no longer intrigued nor entertained by the various performances put up by everyone for the parade. Everything just looks so repetitive and boring, not to mention all the enslavery... heehee. I wonder if its just me...

Will be meeting up with a friend of mine who will be going overseas to further his studies in the US, and hopefully come back after 8 years with a doctorate. He was one of my best buddies back in camp, went through a lot of stuff together and of course, dodged a lot of arrows too. I am happy for him as he will be entering a new chapter, one that will perhaps, change his life forever, propelling him into a brighter future. I really hope that he will continue to hang on to the threads of our friendship no matter how far apart we may be. Friends, once bonded, should never be allowed to sever itself, and that is what I hold in every friendship. I may not be able to see him off on Wednesday, so I would like to wish him all the best for his studies and bon voyage!

Our life is likened to that of a day. When we are born, sunrise marks the beginning of a brand new day, a day of hope and joy. I am now at the time before the sun shines to its fullest and highest. The day will come when we all will shine and create miracles with our lifes, hopefully bringing joy and light to those around us and as we age, we will age with as much splendour as the sunset of each day. That will mark an end to our wonderful lifetime, a lifetime worth remembering rather than regretting. I hope each and everyone of us will have a story of our own to tell, one that will allow us to derive pleasure to depict when we get old. We are the authors of our lifes, no one will tell us exactly what to write in our books, it is all up to us to decide what contents to add in and what not to.

Life is that simple... isn't it?

A Day Well Spent?

I went to the Library @ Orchard today with Lyon, perhaps hoping for a brand new experience of visiting a library. Yeah, the deco was cool and the ambience in the library was obviously different from that of a neighbourhood one, more sophisticated and such. Found a book that would probably boggle my mind for a while; An Introduction to Philosophy. Well, the book could be summarised by a question: "Which comes first? The egg or the chicken?". Get the hang of it? Guess I would need more time to understand and finally, read philosphy which is one of the modules that I have selected for this sem. Lyon was rather dumbfounded when he read just one section of the book, imagine having to take it for a semester... Well, we all gotta try to look on the bright side of life... right?

We walked from Orchard all the way to Bugis, some what like a mini route march... Only without the greens and the dullness of the usual settings (Trees... Grass... and green people marching alongside you...) Kinda enjoyed the little walk that I had with Lyon today. Our final destination was to be Sim Lim Square, our usual hangout when we get really bored or really interested in some new technological advances. Well, I started off finding peripherals for my Sony Clie, only to find that the prices for them are still as high as ever. Lyon soon found his stuff and I was left hoping that the current Clie pullout from the Palm market would trigger a clearance of Clie accessories at dirt cheap prices. Well, its just a hope... Guess the people at Sim Lim would comtemplate just as much as we...

Going off to campus tomorrow to attend a modular talk by the vice dean of my faculty. Lets hope I get some seats this time round...

Relax...

Yesterday, admist the peltering rain, I went to the Freshmen Inauguration Ceremony for my varsity early in the morning. As usual, although I have reached the Cultural centre 20 minutes before the commencement of the ceremony, there was already a huge throng of eager people talking and shoving amongst themselves. At that very moment, I thought to myself: "Should I really be here?"

Shrugging aside that momental gloom, I whisked out my PDA to test whether the campus has already added me to their network. Luckily for me, I was able to access the net (A great joy indeed as I warmed the seats beside the entrance of the Cultural Centre theatre together with Lyon) I sat there until about 60% of the crowd had disappeared into the isles through the doors. An usher then approached us, showing us the way up the stairs and into the 2nd level gallery seats. (A bit of luck at last... Seats without having to queue.)

Once seated, we were greeted by the Jazz Band of NUS. Lyon found the performers rather stiff as they belted out piece after piece. Even the person in charge was not moving around much with the rythm either. That brought me to compare the performance of the chaps down there with that of Paul's friends... Amazing, the composure and confidence that radiated from Paul's friends were obviously missing from those playing away down below. Nevertheless, I sat back and tried to enjoy the music, at least for a while...

The theatre was filled up quickly and before long, the ceremony begun. The key members of the student council and of course, the university were ushered into their seats, which were placed right in front of the freshmen audience. Talks were given by the presidents of the student council and the university. Well, I thought I could live through that until they asked us all to rise for the university pledge. (Great, there was now this uncanny resemblance to the pledge that I took 2 years ago in the army.) At least the goodies were good enough... (A rather good quality file with a wacky pen, NUS collar pin, NUS centennial celebration stickers and a magazine) There was this girl seated beside Lyon who clapped non stop throughout the whole ceremony; we wondered if those petite hands of hers hurt after all that clapping. (heehee)

Before long, the whole ceremony has ended with the NUS Choir (Which I must say, was the best part of the ceremony) and 2 video presentations. I then accompanied Lyon to the Computer Centre to get his PDA wired up for use in the campus. (Obviously, our last trip there was a disappointing one for him) The person serving him seemed rather impatient as Lyon tried to get the MAC address for his wireless card from his PDA. So much for their motto. (Good customer service? Patience? Looks more to me that they were not briefed on the accepted code of conduct which was hung high up against the wall smack in the center of the office) Well, we soon got the problem figured out and we headed down to the Engineering Canteen for our much needed lunch.

Not a bad day although it could have been better. I've gotten all the modules that I have bidded for, now I've got to get myself psyched up for the new term. A whole new life and challenge awaits as yet another chapter of my life begins...
